Which Queenstown Zipline Tour Should You Book?

Ziptrek's one-, two- and three-hour zipline tours and the Kawarau Zipride compared: lines, time, price, limits, and which one suits which traveller.

Updated October 2026

For most people, Ziptrek’s three-hour, six-line tour: it has the most lines, a guided forest walk and the fastest finish, and it is rated 4.8 from 596 reviews. Families with young children or first-timers who want less height may prefer the two-hour, four-line tour. The one-hour tour suits a tight schedule. The Kawarau Zipride is a single short ride, not a tour.

The three Ziptrek tours

All three start at the Ziptrek Treehouse at the top of the Skyline Gondola, on Bob’s Peak, and none includes the gondola ticket. Ziptrek’s own site names them after native birds:

Prices, ratings and review counts from our October 2026 data check; operators use seasonal pricing, so treat them as the shape of the market, not a quote.

The six-line and four-line tours both start slow and low and build up, so the longer tour is not more frightening at the start; it simply keeps going. The six-line tour adds a guided walk down through beech forest and finishes on what Ziptrek calls the world’s steepest tree-to-tree zipline, at up to 70 km/h. The one-hour tour packs two lines and a 21-metre drop to the forest floor into under an hour, then you walk 10 minutes back up the Tiki Trail.

The Kawarau Zipride

AJ Hackett’s Zipride, at the Kawarau Bungy Centre, is a seated ride over the gorge, solo or side by side, and you are winched back up. It costs from about $28 with photos and free transport from central Queenstown, from age 8. One guest put it simply: “Fun but it’s short, activity completed within 10 mins.” It suits a family that wants one ride, or a bungy day with a non-jumper along.
