How a Ziptrek Tour in Queenstown Works
Four steps from the gondola base in town to the last line, including the timing the operator asks you to allow.
Ride the Skyline Gondola Up
The tour starts at the Ziptrek Treehouse on Bob's Peak, about 100 metres to the left of the upper Skyline Gondola terminal. The gondola ticket is your own expense. The operator asks you to allow at least 40 minutes from the base terminal, and up to an hour at Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and school holidays.
Harness Up at the Treehouse
Check in, get your harness and helmet, and meet your guides. Closed shoes are required, and an extra layer is recommended in every season. The operator confirms your exact start time by email after booking, and a change of more than 30 minutes can be refunded if you do not accept it.
Six Lines Through the Forest
The lines start low and slow and get longer, higher and faster across twelve tree-top platforms, the highest 25 metres above the ground. At each platform the guides tell stories about local history, legends and the forest's ecology.
Walk Down, Then the Steepest Line
A guide leads a 20-minute walk downhill through beech forest to the last line, which the operator calls the world's steepest tree-to-tree zipline, with speeds of up to 70 km/h. Ziptrek's own site says this tour finishes back in town.

Three Forest Tours on Bob's Peak, One Ride Over a Gorge
Which zipline tour fits your time and nerve, what it costs once the gondola is added, who can go, and what to know before you book.
Queenstown’s zipline tours are run by one operator, Ziptrek Ecotours, on Bob’s Peak, the forested hill above town that the Skyline Gondola climbs. Its three tours start from a treehouse beside the top gondola station and drop from platform to platform through the trees, with Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables below. The other zipline in the area is AJ Hackett’s Kawarau Zipride, a short seated ride over the gorge at the Kawarau Bungy Centre.
The tour this site recommends is Ziptrek’s three-hour, six-line zipline adventure: rated 4.8 from 596 reviews and from about $123 on the booking platform when we checked. It has the most lines, a guided walk through beech forest and the fastest finish. The Skyline Gondola ticket is not included.

The Ziptrek tours are the same experience at three lengths. Ziptrek’s own site names them the Kererū (two lines and the drop), the Moa (four lines) and the Kea (six lines), and the four- and six-line tours both build from slow, low lines to faster, higher ones, so neither is a jump into the deep end. The Kawarau Zipride is something else: one fast ride in a seated harness at the home of the bungy, over in minutes, with photos included. Which Queenstown zipline tour to book sets them side by side.
What the six-line tour is like
You check in at the treehouse, harness up and walk to the first platform. The lines get longer and faster as you go, through twelve platforms in the beech forest, the highest 25 metres off the ground. The guides launch and catch you at every platform and talk about the forest, local history and legends in between. Then a guide walks you 20 minutes downhill to the last line, which Ziptrek calls the world’s steepest tree-to-tree zipline, at up to 70 km/h. The canopy tour guide has more on the lines.

See this ride →What it costs, with the gondola
The Ziptrek tours on the platform cost from about $73 to $123 a person, and none includes the Skyline Gondola, which you need to reach the treehouse. Skyline’s price page lists the gondola at NZ$69 for an adult and NZ$48 for a child aged 6 to 14. So a couple on the six-line tour should budget for two tour tickets and two gondola tickets. The Kawarau Zipride needs no gondola and includes free transport from central Queenstown. Queenstown zipline prices does the sums.
Getting to the start

The Skyline Gondola base station is on Brecon Street, a short walk from the town centre. Ziptrek asks you to allow at least 40 minutes from the base to the treehouse, and up to an hour at Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and in school holidays, because the gondola queues. The treehouse is about 100 metres to the left of the top station. How to get to the Ziptrek treehouse covers the timing.
Who can go
Ziptrek’s tours are for ages 6 and up, with a maximum weight of 125 kg. The six-line tour lists a minimum of 30 kg, the one-hour tour 20 kg, and the four-line tour no minimum, with lighter children riding tandem with an adult. Children 14 and under need a paying adult with them, and under-18s need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. The Kawarau Zipride is from age 8, from 30 to 150 kg. Age and weight limits has the detail for each.
Before you go
Wear closed shoes; sandals, flip-flops and heels are not allowed. Bring a jacket, hat and gloves, because Bob’s Peak is cooler than the lakefront and the tours run in most weather. Your start time may differ from the one you request; the operator confirms it by email. Is a Queenstown zipline tour worth it? weighs the cost against the other things to do in town.
Queenstown Zipline Tour is an independent visitor guide. It is not affiliated with Ziptrek Ecotours, AJ Hackett Bungy, Skyline Queenstown or any tour operator named here. Tours are sold by GetYourGuide.

Queenstown Zipline Tour FAQ
What people ask before booking a zipline in Queenstown, answered in the first sentence. Prices are the booking platform's, checked in October 2026.
For the full experience, Ziptrek's three-hour, six-line tour: rated 4.8 from 596 reviews, from about $123. Its four-line, two-hour tour has almost as many reviews at the same rating and suits families and first-timers. The Kawarau Zipride is a single short ride, better as an add-on than a tour. Which tour to book
No: every Ziptrek tour on the platform lists the Skyline Gondola ticket as extra. The tours start at the Ziptrek Treehouse at the top of the gondola, so you need to get up there. Skyline's price page lists the gondola at NZ$69 for an adult and NZ$48 for a child aged 6 to 14. Getting to the treehouse
Ziptrek's tours cost from about $73 to $123 a person on the platform, plus the gondola. The Kawarau Zipride is from about $28 with photos and transport from town included. A full e-bike day that includes the Zipride, a Shotover Jet ride and a wine tasting is from about $281. Queenstown zipline prices
Six for Ziptrek's tours and eight for the Kawarau Zipride. On Ziptrek, children 14 and under need a paying adult aged 15 or over with them, and anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. On the Zipride, 8- and 9-year-olds ride tandem with an adult aged 20 or over. Age and weight limits
Ziptrek's maximum is 125 kg on every tour; the minimum is 30 kg on the six-line tour and 20 kg on the one-hour tour. The four-line tour lists no minimum, and children under 30 kg may ride tandem with an adult. The Kawarau Zipride takes riders from 30 to 150 kg, solo or tandem. The limits tour by tour
About one, two or three hours for Ziptrek's two-, four- and six-line tours, plus the gondola ride up. Ziptrek asks you to allow at least 40 minutes from the gondola base to the treehouse, up to an hour in busy periods. The Kawarau Zipride itself takes minutes; the listing gives 1 hour if you drive and 2.5 hours on the bungy bus. Timing the day
Ziptrek's six-line tour ends on what the operator calls the world's steepest tree-to-tree zipline, with speeds of up to 70 km/h. We found no independent measurement of line lengths to rank them, so treat 'longest' claims with care. The six-line tour is Ziptrek's longest tour by number of lines and time. What the canopy tour is like
Closed shoes and an extra warm layer, in every season. Ziptrek does not allow sandals, flip-flops or heels and recommends a jacket, hat and gloves. Bob's Peak is cooler than the lakefront, and the tours run in most weather. The six-line tour's notes
Yes: every tour on this site has free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Ziptrek also confirms your exact start time by email after booking, and if it moves by more than 30 minutes and you do not accept the new time, you can be refunded. Compare the tours
